ICACC

ICACC represents an ongoing partnership between the local Aboriginal Community and eight Local Government authorities in the southern area of Melbourne.

Our Vision

To achieve and enhance respect, recognition, reconciliation, equity health and wellbeing for Aboriginal people

Our Focus

  •  to enhance and promote Aboriginal culture, society and heritage that exists throughout the lands and waters of the ICACC region in all aspects of the landscape that are important to Aboriginal people as part of their heritage.
  •  to link Aboriginal communities to the broader community
  •  to identify needs and gaps in services and areas where cooperation can be improved between Aboriginal communities and all levels of Government, and to make recommendations and develop strategies by which these needs can be addressed.
  •  to work with Aboriginal stakeholders, tiers of Government and other agencies within the region to understand the need to involve Aboriginal perspectives in decisions they make.
  •  to contribute and encourage strategic planning and policy development for the advancement of social/cultural, economic and environmental development

  • Bass Coast Shire
  • Cardinia Shire
  • City of Casey

Background Information

The Inter Council Aboriginal Consultative Committee was formed in 1997 out of an initiative by the Municipal Association of Victoria (MAV), and was established by a group of eight Local Government Councils, Aboriginal organisations, service providers and Aboriginal community members who have come together to address issues affecting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities within this region.

ICACC represents an ongoing partnership between the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community and eight Local Government Authorities of Mornington Peninsula Shire, Bass Coast Shire Council, Frankston City Council, City of Casey, Knox City Council, Kingston City Council, City of Greater Dandenong and Cardinia Shire.

The ICACC secretariat was formed in 2005. Equally funded by the eight Councils, the Secretariat is staffed by a part-time employee who provides administrative support to the ICACC Committee and its members. The Secretariat is hosted by Councils on a two-year rotating basis. It is currently hosted by the City of Frankston.

Local Government Liaison Group (LGLG)

The LGLG Committee consists of eight elected Aboriginal Representatives from the ICACC region, eight delegated Councillors and eight appointed officers from the member Councils.

The LGLG develops partnerships between Aboriginal people, agencies and governments. Essentially it is the working group for ICACC. It ensures Community Forums are organised, addresses needs, establishes priorities, seeks funding for ICACC projects, reports back to the Community on issues and developments, disseminates information, and advocates on needs identified by the community.

The LGLG meet quarterly, hosted by ICACC Councils on a rotating basis.

LGLG meetings are open to the Committee and invited guests only.
They are closed to the general public.
Community Forums are open to the public.
