About ICACC

Inter-Council Aboriginal Consultative Committee (ICACC)

Background Information:

Formed in 1997, ICACC represents a partnership between the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community and 8 Local Government Authorities of:- Mornington Peninsula Shire, Bass Coast Shire Council, Frankston City Council, City of Casey, Knox City Council, Kingston City Council, City of Greater Dandenong and Cardinia Shire.

Our current external funding provider for the 2009/2010 financial year is the Federal Department of Families, Housing, Community Services and Indigenous Affairs (FaHCSIA).

The vision of ICACC is to achieve respect, recognition, reconciliation, equity, health and wellbeing for Aboriginal people. The focus of of ICACC is linking Aboriginal communities to the broader community and identifying needs and gaps in services.

ICACC also aims to improve the cultural awareness of mainstream services to make them more accessible to the Aboriginal community.

The secretariat's role is funded by the 8 Councils and the project role is funded by Department of Families, Housing, Community Services and Indigenous Affairs (FaHCSIA).

Current ICCAC processes:

Memorandum of Understanding 2009-2013: The current Memorandum of Understanding was signed off in March 2010 by the Chief Executive Officers of the 8 Councils involved in the partnership. This endorses the Secretariat position for a further four years.

Current Funding 09/10 Financial Year: Our current funding is for the delivery of cultural connection activities, ATSI youth leadership programs, establishing social capacity within ATSI communities and the continuation of ICACC quarterly community forums (see What's On).
